Salary: £22,000 - £24,000 (depending on experience)

Our clients Theatre HCAs play an essential role in the smooth running of its theatres and help to maintain exceptional levels of care. Theatre HCAs assist the wider theatre team with the safe passage of patients through the surgical pathway. The post holder will be based at the Hospital Theatres department and will:

  • Have experience working in a theatre environment

  • Assist in the routine delivery of care and organisation of the theatres for clinical procedures and practice

  • Assist the team positioning patient for surgery and moving equipment

  • Contribute to the overall good of the organisation by being a positive role model and treat all staff, visitors, consultants and service users with courtesy and respect

  • Undertake rotation across the specialities to cover the service where acquired skills allow

    It is expected that the post holder will be able to carry out all of the duties listed in the main duty section below. The duties will vary from speciality to speciality and they may carry out other similar duties in support of the theatre environment that are not listed. No duties are to be undertaken by the post holder unless they have relevant experience or have received appropriate training.

Clinical responsibilities:

  • To assist with the administrative function of the surgical team including the accurate documentation of records.

  • To assist the scrub nurse and surgeon during surgical procedures

  • Monitoring and recording base line clinical observations.

  • Urinalysis as required.

  • MRSA screening as required.

  • Provide post-operative advice to patients.

  • Ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed.

  • To assist with ensuring that clinical waste collection runs smoothly,

  • Reporting any problems to the theatre manager or nurse in charge.

  • Ensure sharps bins are secure and ready for collection.

  • Restocking of clinical areas and support areas.

  • To participate in audit where appropriate and requested.

  • Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the surgical team.

  • Assist the theatre team to ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patient’s notes.

  • Ensure the accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with the patient.

  • Assist the nursing team to ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.

  • Attend and participate in team meetings, briefing and debriefing as required.

  • To assist in the management of surgical records and appointment systems.

  • To fulfil any additional duties as reasonably requested and required.

  • To assist with the safe dispatch of specimens.

  • To assist with the safe dispatch, arrival and set up of surgical instruments, loan kits and equipment.
